I nearly failed this Trimester, but this is me taking action to get back on track. Starting the year with a personal goal doesn't always mean that you will a) follow through or b) succeed. Last year, I started this web space with the goals of developing my writing and highlighting teaching and learning in the high school. This year, so far, I have failed to follow through! It's not for lack of ideas - there are almost too many cool things going on this year to list.
In past years, our school parent conferences were held after the end of the trimester, and we made a conscious decision this year to move them back. Reflecting and calibrating our performance BEFORE it's too late to recover is tremendously empowering. It great to know that we still have time to change track, try harder, or just acknowledge those things we need to bring into sharper focus.
Looking back now, I'm able to see some areas of development I didn't expect: I now know how to post to the Woods Facebook Page and the Twitter feed, in order to reach my target audience - that's a big change for the better! Perhaps life took you in a different direction this trimester and things didn't go as you expected. Maybe it's best, in the words of Benjamin Zander, to just say "how fascinating!" when we fall short, rather than feeling bad about what we didn't get done.
All in all, I spend more time thinking about that fact that I hadn't written anything here for a while than I did writing something. See how easy it is to get back on track - small steps. How will you recalibrate for the end of the first trimester?
